ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Gabriella Hewitt is the pen name of writing team Sasha Tomaszycki and Patrizia M.J. Hayashi. One lives in the U.S., the other in Japan. How do these two ladies write together when they are thousands of miles apart? Here’s what they had to say:
“There are several writing teams out there and you’d probably get a different answer from each one. In our case, egos are checked at the door. One of us comes up with an idea. We discuss it through emails, IM, and online chats, because Patrizia lives in Japan and Sasha lives in the USA. Then we expand on the idea and write an outline. Next, we set to work. We write back and forth, zinging the documents through cyberspace. One writes during the day while the other sleeps and vice versa. If we think the story is going in the wrong direction or a character is behaving out of context, we let one another know. More importantly we don’t own our writing. We freely go in and revise and rewrite each other’s lines if necessary and in doing so, establish the voice that is Gabriella Hewitt.”
